The Best Dressed Stars of the Week Nailed Pared-Back Statement Dressing
When you think of statement dressing, you likely imagine a voluminous ball gown—or perhaps a neon-bright suit. But according to this week’s best dressed stars, you can still turn heads in looks that are quietly elegant. Case in point: On the red carpets these past few days, celebrities such as Zendaya, Rihanna, and Megan Thee Stallion all slipped into ensembles that were decidedly pared-back—but still delivered major fashion impact.
The key to a subtle ensemble shining? Turns out, it’s all in the cut and silhouette. When Megan Thee Stallion attended a Planned Parenthood gala in New York City, for instance, her black Versace column gown felt fresh thanks to the squared neckline and bejeweled gold shoulder straps. Ditto for Zoe Kravitz, who attended a Cabaret preview in Manhattan wearing a sheer Saint Laurent look with a classic black coat thrown overtop. In London, meanwhole, Rihanna also reimagined a classic two-piece suit—by going oversized in beige Peter Do tailoring, which instantly made it feel cool and modern.
There were a few fashion moments this week that were a little more obviously bold, however. For a Challengers photo call in Los Angeles, Zendaya chose a sculptural Jacquemus design that featured hip cutouts and a big, full skirt. For the Louis Vuitton pre-fall 2024 show in Shanghai, Hoyeon Jung also opted for shimmer, choosing the label’s sheer, paillette-covered dress, which she styled overtop a black bra top and leggings. When in doubt, embrace disco ball dressing.
