Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ relationship timeline
Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes caused quite a stir when they went from co-anchors on “GMA3” to a couple in November 2022.
Robach and Holmes began their relationship in spring 2022 when she was still legally married to Andrew Shue, and he was married to Marilee Fiebig. However, they both denied they were having an affair at the time.
They each eventually got divorced from their respective partners after making headlines, and they later returned to work to discuss their relationship and the backlash from their relationship on their podcast, “Amy and T.J.”

September 2020: Their Work Relationship Begins
Holmes and Robach began their professional relationship when the former signed on as a co-host for the third hour of “Good Morning America” called “GMA3: What You Need to Know” in September 2020.
Robach started hosting the show in March 2020 when it focused on the COVID-19 pandemic and stayed on as it evolved into a more generalized broadcast program.
“We really have an appreciation for where we are with this show. We could have plotted and planned for a possible show, but this one just happened, and it happened organically,” Holmes told Resident Magazine in April 2021.
For the next two years, they traveled to several destinations for work –– including Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in London in June 2022 and the Daytime Emmys a few weeks after that.
Nov. 30, 2022: Robach and Holmes’ romantic relationship exposed
Robach and Holmes’ romantic relationship made headlines after the Daily Mail published photos of them holding hands in New York City in May 2022.
It was also revealed that, weeks before their relationship was exposed, the two had taken a trip to a cottage in upstate New York where Holmes was photographed grabbing Robach’s butt.
Page Six later confirmed that they became romantically involved after training together for the New York City Half Marathon in March 2022.
“They have a very cozy relationship on air, but that is what is expected. But they were very careful behind the scenes to keep their affair secret. The producers at ‘GMA’ are shocked to hear they are having an affair,” a source told us at the time.
Dec. 5, 2022: Taking a hiatus from ‘GMA3’
Shortly after the photos were released, ABC took Robach and Holmes off the air and investigated their relationship.
ABC News president Kim Godwin told staffers on Dec. 5, 2022, that the news had become an “internal and external distraction.”
Although Holmes and Robach never addressed their relationship on air before their hiatus, they subtly reference the news on their final episode on Dec. 2, 2022.
“You know, it’s too bad it’s Friday. It’s been a great week,” Holmes said, while Robach laughed. “I just want this one to keep going and going and going. Just enjoy it! Take it all in.”
Robach added, “Speak for yourself. I am very excited about the weekend — and I’m sure everyone else is too. We all love our Fridays around here. Some of us do, at least.”
Dec. 28, 2022: Holmes files for divorce from Marilee Fiebig
Page Six confirmed that Holmes filed for divorce from Fiebig after almost 13 years of marriage on Dec. 28, 2022.
The former couple have one daughter, Sabine, who was born in January 2013.
A source told Page Six that Fiebig was “blindsided” by Holmes’ alleged affair. At the time, the two were allegedly trying to “work things out” though they had been separated for a few months.
“She’s devastated. She had no idea,” an insider shared.
Holmes and Fiebig’s divorce was finalized nearly a year later in October 2023. Meanwhile, a source told us Robach and Shue’s divorce was “almost finalized” on Dec. 1, 2022, and they settled for good in March 2023.
Jan. 27, 2023: Fired from ‘GMA3’
Holmes and Robach never returned to “GMA3” after their final episode on Dec. 2, 2022. Page Six confirmed in January 2023 that they had signed exit agreements and ABC had emailed staff members to tell them the news.
“After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News. We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement at the time.
Eva Pilgrim, DeMarco Morgan and Dr. Jennifer Ashton were later named as the replacements for “GMA3.”
January 2023 – January 2024: Packing on the PDA
Despite losing their jobs and facing backlash for their relationship, Robach and Holmes appeared happier than ever while taking trips and locking lips throughout 2023.
Just a few weeks after their relationship made headlines, the two were seen getting cozy at the Atlanta airport before spending the holidays together in Miami in December 2022. Page Six later obtained photos of the two making out and constantly touching each other during the warm getaway.
The two appeared unbothered after ABC announced their departure and were seen hugging, kissing and holding hands in Los Angeles in January 2023.
One month later, Page Six obtained photos of Holmes grabbing Robach’s butt, kissing her and holding her hand on a vacation to Mexico in February 2023.
They were later seen canoodling in New York City in March 2023, kissing while on a walk in NYC in May 2023, holding hands in California in December 2023 and even “dirty dancing” at a wedding that same month, among other PDA-packed outings.
March 19, 2023: Reconnecting at the Half Marathon
Robach and Holmes ran the New York City Half Marathon together in March 2023, one year after they had started their relationship.
Two months later, they participated in the 2023 RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon, the New York City Marathon in November 2023 and the New York City Half Marathon in March 2024.
Aug. 28, 2023: Instagram-official
Robach and Holmes made their relationship official on social media by sharing the same black-and-white photos of their matching shoes on Aug. 28, 2023.
“#nycmarathon2023 🏃🏾♂️🏃♀️,” they captioned the posts.
October 2023: A hometown date
The former co-workers reached a new relationship milestone when Holmes brought Robach to his hometown of Fayetteville, Ark., in October 2023.
Both Robach and Holmes shared several snaps from the weekend that showed them cheering on his college football team, the University of Arkansas.
“Hog for a night. Dawg for life. #truelove,” Robach captioned an Instagram post of two red seats with their names on them.
Holmes also posted photos of him holding Robach close while they stood on the sidelines.
Nov. 1, 2023: Going back to work together
Robach and Holmes made headlines once again when they announced they would be returning to work by launching a podcast called “Amy and T.J.”
They shared in a statement that the podcast will “explore meaningful conversations about current events, pop culture, and everything in between.”
“‘Amy & T.J.’ is guaranteed to be informative, entertaining, and above all, authentic; it will mark the first time Robach and Holmes speak publicly since their own names became a part of the headlines,” the statement continued.
Dec. 1, 2023: Red carpet debut
The twosome displayed their love for one another by making their relationship red carpet official at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball 2023 in Los Angeles on Dec. 1, 2023.
Robach and Holmes matched in black outfits while they smiled, laughed and held each other tight.
A few weeks later, they continued getting hands at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball 2023 in New York City.
Dec. 5, 2023: Denying cheating on spouses
Robach and Holmes shared their sides of the scandal for the first time since news of their relationship broke one year prior on their first podcast episode on Dec. 5, 2023.
The couple also denied that they were having an affair and claimed they were “outed as being in a relationship” and were not “outed as adulterers.”
“We both at that point were in divorce proceedings,” Holmes said.
Robach claimed that she and Shue had been separated for three months before the first photos of them surfaced, and Holmes said he’d been living apart from Fiebig since summer 2022.
Elsewhere in the bombshell episode, Robach got emotional while recalling how she “wanted to die” amid the backlash. She later revealed that Holmes also faced “dark” times, and she and her dad even did a “welfare check” on him during a “terrifying” moment.
Robach remembered being “hysterical,” because she was “so afraid he had done something.”
“You were just splayed out on your bed. I ran to you and said, ‘T.J.,’ and you didn’t move,” she said. “It was the most awful thing having to touch your body and see if you were warm. I was so afraid. You were just incoherent.”
Holmes admitted he had been “pounding vodka” and “took who knows how many weed edibles” that resulted in his state.
However, the two ended the episode by saying they are “happier than ever” and “in love.”
“Relationships are hard, they’re messy, they’re not perfect. We have fought for love, and I can say I have never been happier. I am with my best friend,” she said.
Dec. 5, 2023: Shue and Fiebig relationship revealed
Just hours after Robach and Holmes broke their silence on their scandal, their exes made headlines of their own.
Page Six broke the news that Shue and Fiebig were in a romantic relationship on Dec. 5, 2023. Sources told us that the two had been dating for six months at that poine after bonding over the traumatic experience of being cheated on.
“It turned into something else, and they’re connected over their values. It’s bigger than the affair now,” one insider shared. “They’re not heartbroken and sad. Everyone has moved on.”
Fiebig and Shue were photographed traveling together at JFK Airport in New York City in January 2024.
Shortly afterward, sources told Page Six that Robach was “livid” with Shue for “trying to steal her thunder” with the news of his new relationship breaking right after the launch of her podcast.
“She’s convinced he did this to coincide with the debut of her podcast,” insiders told us, but another source assured us that Shue “doesn’t steal the spotlight.”
December 2023 – June 2024: More secrets revealed on podcast
Since starting their “Amy & T.J.” podcast in December 2023, the couple has shared several stories and intimate details about their relationship, sex life and families.
During their Dec. 19 episode, Robach and Holmes said that marriage is “on the table,” but they are not “racing” or “rushing” to tie the knot.
“We did not enter this relationship for fun or for ‘Let’s see what happens.’ We entered this relationship because we intended on spending our lives together,” she explained at the time.
Four months later, they brought up the topic again, and she clarified that they are “still deciding” about the “level of commitment” they would take.
“We haven’t figured [out] the marriage thing out yet,” she said, while he added that they “haven’t decided whether or not we are going to officially get married.”
Robach and Holmes have also discussed their relationships with each other’s kids and how they handled their respective parents being in the news.
“Even when my daughters found out about this, because of the tabloids, they were shocked and thrown a punch that I think a lot of people felt when they found out about us,” Robach said on the same Dec. 19, 2023 episode.
Robach — who shares Ava and Annalise with her first husband, Tim McIntosh — recalled how her oldest daughter questioned her about the “quick decision,” but she assured them that she “knew how I felt about him.”
On a podcast episode two days later, Holmes and Robach revealed that they’re still “evolving” their relationships with each other’s kids when they transitioned from friends to romantic partners.
“So as tough as it has been for so many people in our lives, it’s the most difficult for them because now they’re having to look at us in a different way with one another,” Robach explained on a Dec. 21, 2023 episode.
Robach clarified that the three are “peaceful” with each other, but they “want to continue to build on that.”
“My little one has known Robach since she was 1 and now she’s knowing Robach in a different way in a different role, but it’s been the greatest,” Holmes pointed out.
By January 2024, Robach and Holmes updated fans that blending their families had become “effortless” after “trying to find the right balance between your kids and your partner.”
“You’ve been great, and it’s been one of the great, great, great joys over the past several months — six months-plus — is how Sabine’s really taking it,” Holmes said during the Jan. 9, 2024 episode. “Even sometimes when I pick her up from school and say, ‘Yeah, Robach is not at the house,’ and then she is like, ‘OK, well then I don’t want to come’ because she is disappointed that you’re not there.”
Robach also gushed about the “very sweet” bond the three girls share and said it was “nice to see everything becoming normal and getting easier and effortless.”
Meanwhile, the couple has also gotten candid about some of the struggles in their relationship.
During a Dec. 26, 2023 episode, Holmes confessed that he “will check out” when they are arguing.
“I don’t need you to say, ‘I’m sorry.’ I don’t need you to help me. I have to work through it, and I’m trying to get better at doing it quicker,” he said.
Robach added that it can sometimes take “two days, at least” for him to get over an argument and that she’d “rather have him yell at me than freeze me out for two days.”
Holmes continued dissecting some of their issues when he explained that he gets “really frustrated” when they are “traveling apart.”
“We have been through so much together. I always get an anxiety, I get fear that [if] we’re not together, I’m not there with you, frankly, to protect you, to help you if anything goes on. I just don’t like being apart from you,” he said on an April 12 episode.
The couple also discussed their drinking habits while participating in Dry January 2024. Robach told listeners that she had “over 30 drinks” a week in 2023, and Holmes admitted that he would consume 18 alcoholic beverages a day in 2023.
Nearly two years after their romantic relationship began, Robach expressed how she gives “zero f–ks” about other people’s thoughts on their controversial relationship.
“We know a little bit about walking through some darkness [and] coming through the other side when the worst has happened. And I’ve thought I’ve hit rock bottom before and then I actually hit rock bottom,” she said on the June 3 episode.
Holmes agreed and said the entire ordeal has been “weird” and “freeing.”
