Microsoft Flight Simulator Gets Its ‘Biggest World Update Ever’ On Xbox & PC

UK & Ireland expansion

Microsoft Flight Simulator just keeps on growing, and the game’s newest World Update is “the biggest ever” for the 2021 Xbox title. Asobo Studio is returning to the UK and Ireland for a major MSFS upgrade, featuring “high-quality, hand-crafted airports, dozens of POIs, Landing Challenges, Discovery Flights, and Bush Trips”.

This in-game region has seen MSFS updates before, but this time around, the team says that the level of detail is much higher – and changes are being made to a broader number of areas within the UK and Ireland.

“Overall, the scope is much larger according to Neumann, where the team now has more photogrammetry cities — in this case, it’s closer to 16 whereas the typical World Update only includes three or four.

A lot of this stems from a positive relationship with the Bing team who have been flying aircraft over England the last two years, testing a new camera that provides much higher resolution imagery than what was available before.”

The team also says that improvements to Bing data helped kickstart such a big update – “incredibly accurate digital elevation maps of the region” are now available to Asobo Studio, which players should experience in this massive upgrade to the region.

Finally, the developer also wants to reassure fans that despite Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 coming this year, support will not stop for the current MSFS. The team says that “Game Pass brings in new people all the time” and that “Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) will live on” beyond the launch of MSFS 2024 this November.
