The IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra on July 25, with a yellow alert for Mumbai. Orange alerts are in place for several districts including Thane and Pune. Tansa Lake in Mumbai has started overflowing, prompting the opening of three dam gates.

Mumbai Rain Update: IMD issues red alert for heavy rainfall in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, Mumbai on yellow alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra on July 25. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for the financial capital. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for Thane, Palghar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.

According to the IMD, “The districts of Konkan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. The districts of Madhya Maharashtra, particularly in the Ghat region, are also expected to experience heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.”

Furthermore, the RMC noted that North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada districts are likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places. Vidarbha is expected to see thundershowers, gusty winds, and heavy rain in isolated areas.

In an update from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), it was reported that Tansa Lake, one of Mumbai’s water sources, began overflowing at around 4:16 PM today. Three gates of the Tansa Dam have been opened, releasing water at a rate of 3,315 cusecs. The full storage capacity of Tansa Lake is 14,508 crore liters.
