Tribe Nine debuts new action-packed trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live
Part of a big night of games
- Upcoming ARPG title Tribe Nine has unveiled a new, action-packed trailer
- The reveal came as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live in Cologne
- It gives us more glimpses of gameplay and new bosses
Well, if you’ve somehow been stuck under a rock, you may have missed that last night saw Cologne once more host Gamescom Opening Night Live. This glitzy presentation of new trailers, reveals and more featured plenty from mobile, including today’s subject, Tribe Nine. This ARPG – focused on a near-future Tokyo ruled by street gangs who compete in lethal games of extreme baseball – is one we’ve covered before.
The latest trailer gives us some short glimpses of the gameplay, separated into the traditional team battles typical of ARPGs and a more retro-inspired overworld that imposes eight-bit renditions of the characters on a 3D landscape. It also seems to hint at the difficulty being a major factor, or it could be another artefact of designer Kazutaka Kodaka’s work on the notoriously bloody Danganronpa series.
In any case, the trailer doesn’t seem to reveal anything that we don’t already know about Tribe Nine. But for fans who are hankering for more of an overview and to see more of the game in action, you can check out the new trailer below!
Play ball!
I was never a huge Danganronpa fan, but I can definitely respect the more unusual look and feel of Rui Komatsuzaki’s art style in Tribe Nine. The aesthetic does make it stand out, but I’m not sure if the gameplay, which seems to be riffing on the flashy aesthetic of gacha games, will meet the same standard.
In any case, we’ve got work to do! Gamescom ONL is only a few hours gone but there’s still lots to cover. If you need something to do as you wait for the rest of our coverage, why not check out our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far)?
Better yet, check some of our reviews, like our one for The Darkside Detective, a throwback point-and-click adventure game.
