‘SNL’ Cold Open sees Harris vs Trump in ‘Family Feud’

“You raised a billion dollars, how are you not winning by a landslide?”

Saturday Night Live took another swing at the 2024 presidential election in their latest episode, but this time with a twist—bringing the debate chaos to the set of Family Feud, hosted by none other than Steve Harvey, played as always by Kenan Thompson.

In the skit, which was part of SNL‘s 50th anniversary season, Harvey moderates a wild game of “Democrats vs. Republicans.” On Team Democrat, Maya Rudolph returns as Kamala Harris, alongside Andy Samberg as Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Jim Gaffigan as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and SNL legend Dana Carvey reprising his spot-on impression of President Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, on Team Republican, James Austin Johnson serves up his pitch-perfect Donald Trump, joined by Mikey Day as Donald Trump Jr. and Bowen Yang as Ohio senator J.D. Vance. But if you’re wondering where Melania is, well, Trump himself can’t seem to keep track. As Johnson’s Trump quips, he last saw her by his side “two years ago.”

As expected with Family Feud, the game quickly went off the rails. The Democrats easily snagged points on “What’s in your glovebox?” with Kamala Harris answering “Gun” and Doug Emhoff following up with “A second gun,” the higher-scoring response.

On the Republican side, only Donald Trump got the spotlight, while Trump Jr. and J.D. Vance were told to stay quiet. Bowen Yang’s Vance deadpanned, “We were told not to speak.”

It was a solid Cold Open to start Saturday’s affairs as Ariana Grande hosted ahead of the premiere of Wicked, with Steve Nicks as the musical guest performance. It’ll be interesting to see what’ll be cooked up next week.
