Emotional Nicole Kidman tears up on red carpet after her mom’s death: ‘It’s a hard road’
Nicole Kidman got emotional while reflecting on her mother’s recent death at the Season 2 premiere of “Lioness” Wednesday night.
“It’s been hard,” she candidly told the Hollywood Reporter on the Los Angeles red carpet. “It’s a hard road. I’m hanging in there.”
Kidman’s mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, died last month at age 84.
The Oscar-winning actress, 57, reportedly teared up while reflecting on the incredibly fruitful time in her career as she deals with her mom’s absence.
“I wish my mama was here,” she told THR. “That’d be the one thing I’d say. Everything is great with work but I wish my mama was here.”
Nicole learned of her mother’s passing shortly after she arrived at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where she was expected to accept the award for best actress for her work on “Babygirl.”
Instead, the thriller film’s director, Halina Reijn, accepted the award on her behalf while simultaneously announcing Nicole’s mother’s death.
“I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her,” Nicole wrote in a statement read by Reijn.
“She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina.”
“The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
