Bollywood Star Shraddha Kapoor Is Picky About Roles After ‘Stree 2’ Success
Bollywood star Shraddha Kapoor, coming off her horror-comedy Stree 2, which broke box office records in India, appears ready to only take on certain roles.
“I feel the best is yet to come, if I have to say. I feel that there’s a lot that I want to do, different kinds of films, different kinds of characters,” Kapoor told the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during an informal conversation Monday.
That means being picky about roles she will take on going forward. “I’m okay to not do something, or do films back to back, that I do not feel in my gut. So I’m looking to be part of films as an actor that are different for me. That’s what I’m after now,” Kapoor argued.
Stree 2, the Amar Kaushik horror-comedy in which Kapoor starred opposite Rajkummar Rao, broke box office records to become the highest-grossing Hindi film ever, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. While in Jeddah, Kapoor was asked to give advice to young actors or directors, and she suggested they focus on their craft, not chasing stardom.
“Don’t do it for the glamor. If you want to be an actor, glamor is 10 percent, 90 percent is hard work,” Kapoor said. She added emerging talent should have a larger vision in their own decision-making as they plot their own career trajectory.
“I really want to try to be part of a larger vision for the industry. So even the kind of films that I want to do, I want to do films that will be forward moving for the industry,” Kapoor said.
The Red Sea Film Festival continues through to Dec. 14.
