Praise be, The Handmaid’s Tale has made its runway debut.
In collaboration with Hulu for the forthcoming sixth and final season of their hit Emmy-winning dystopian series, fashion designer Christian Siriano has reimagined Gilead’s iconic red cloak for the runway. The item’s catwalk debut also celebrates the 40th anniversary of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel on which the series is based.
The custom piece debuted as part of Siriano’s Fall/Winter 2025 Collection, which Siriano said was overall inspired by the idea of futurism and modern technology.
Siriano’s red cloak came to life amid the collection as a draped cape with structured shoulders, including a voluminous hood that was shed on the runway as a symbolic act of liberation and empowerment. By “reclaiming the red,” Siriano and Hulu aim to tell an inspiring story of resilience and transformation. The garment that has so often been viewed as a sign of oppression is now transformed into one of power and strength, per a release from the designer and streamer.
The show’s iconic red cloak first made its debut back in April 2017 in season one and has since become a global sign of protest in the fight for women’s rights worldwide. The first season was in production amid the 2016 U.S. election that put Donald Trump in office for his first presidential run. The show became a cultural touchstone, as its dystopian and misogynistic society began to feel eerily prophetic.

“The backdrop this season is designed as a glamorous yet neutral setting for a collection that is rich in texture and color. Exploring new techniques and tactile fabrications that emulate raw materials like steel, glass and leather — the Fall collection sees sculptural silhouettes crafted in glossy oil slick vinyls, iridescent silks, metallic lamé and intricate abstract embroideries that emulate tire tracks. Always balancing strength and empowerment with my quintessential sense of romanticism and whimsy,” said Siriano of the collection at his runway show, which was attended by the likes of Katie Holmes, Tiffany Haddish, Whoopi Goldberg, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Bedingfield, Laverne Cox, Adam Lambert and more.
The Handmaid’s Tale returns with its final season this spring. A release date has yet to be announced.
