With Hurry Up Tomorrow, the R&B singer landed the fifth No. 1 album of his career. According to Billboard, the album topped the Billboard 200 chart with 490,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 6, the largest week for any album since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department debuted at No. 1 in May 2024.
Additionally, it is the biggest week for a Hip-Hop or R&B album since Travis Scott’s Utopia debuted at No. 1 in August 2023.
Hurry Up Tomorrow features Justice, Anitta, Florence + The Machine, Travis Scott, Future, Playboi Carti, Giorgio Moroder, and Lana Del Rey across 22 tracks.

Of the 490,500 first-week equivalent album units, album sales comprise 359,000, with the album also debuting at No. 1 on Top Album Sales. SEA units comprise 130,500, totaling 171.5 million on-demand official streams of the songs on the streaming edition of the album, also marking a No. 1 debut on Top Streaming Albums) and TEA units comprise 1,000.

Speaking with Variety, the Grammy winner shared the album is closing a chapter, noting it is likely the end of “I would say my existence as the Weeknd.”
“It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for. I feel like it comes with so much …” He trails off before continuing, “You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards, and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it,” elaborated the global pop star.
The end of the era will be marked by the After Hours Til Dawn 2025 stadium tour and the Hurry Up Tomorrow film. Set for release in May 2025, the work stars Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan, and The Weeknd himself, and is directed by Trey Edward Shults.
“From our first meeting, that’s what emboldened me: He really wanted me to make this my film and bring myself to it. And I was blown away by how well he responds to direction as an actor: There would be days where I was ready to walk away from a scene, thinking we got it, and he would ask for another take and push the scene to a new level. I don’t think people realize yet what a good actor he is,” detailed Shults to Variety.
